Visual language Fashion - The compositions of these photos are set to look like high street fashion pictures. I’ve took all the pictures straight on so there is no angles in them, but the model facing different ways in the pictures makes the pictures have some different variation to them. The association with these pictures show the model wearing fashionable autumn clothes and this is what I was hoping to get out of doing these pictures. The images I have taken are to represent fashion photography for a high street clothes shop. Using these photos, I’m trying to make the audience that see these pictures to want to wear the clothes that the model is wearing and to look like the model. This is what fashion catalogues and websites do to make people want to sell their clothes. Because the pictures were took in the woods, I’ve made them have an autumnal, forestry theme by getting the different colours of the leaves to be very noticeable, and by the model wearing a jumper it follows that theme through. The model that is in the photos is the main focal point in all the pictures so this helps to address what the picture is about. Dog – The compositions of these photos are done to look like professional dog photography. The pictures that I took are took from straight but then some are took from an angle just so I can see the full body of the dog for instance the picture of the pug is took from a certain angle so you can see some of the body and tail. I blurred out everything apart from the face in this picture to emphasise the face so the audience that look at the pictures will focus on the detail of the face. The next picture I did was of a Bassett hound. With this picture I took a picture of just his face, again because I like the way that you can focus on all the details of the face and that it shows different watermarks and droplets on his face, I also like the light, autumnal colours that are shown in this picture and I think it adds a lot of effect to the overall picture. The last picture I did was of a French bulldog. With this picture I decided to use the effect of colour pop as it really shows all the colours of the dog and makes her stand out more as the original picture was quite dark anyway. Nature – The compositions of these photos were made to look like nature photography as I have took pictures of flowers and moss on a stone wall. I like these pictures as all of the colours really stand out and they’re nice and bright as well so it gives it a more positive effect on the pictures. The first picture I did was of a bunch of pink flowers, at first I didn’t really like this picture because I didn’t think I could do much to it but when I started doing things to it like darkening the background, I thought that it started to look quite good, this helped me set out a theme for the rest of my photo’s and helped me get an idea what I wanted to with the rest of the pictures. The next picture I did was of a stone wall with moss on it, again I didn’t really like this picture at first but when I started to do what I did with the first picture and brightened up the picture of the moss it made it look better and brighter and made the detail of the moss really stand out. The last picture I did was of a flower and I really liked this picture at first unlike the other two but then again changed the brightness and the colour of the background, it made the picture look even better. This picture was took from straight on where as the other two are took on an angle which I think adds more diversity to the last flower. Audiences Fashion – The audience I am trying to appeal to with these pictures is women aged 16-25. I think this is a good age group because I think that this is the sort of age group that care more about fashion and the model that is in the picture is 17 so it is someone for the age group to look up to, to try and look like. The social group that I think these pictures appeal to is the ones that like to follow mainstream fashion and like to follow the norm. Dog – The audience that I think these pictures would appeal to would be dog lovers that like different breeds of dogs. I think that these pictures don’t really have an age group fro dog pictures because lot’s of different people like them. I think that these pictures would appeal to men and women because the dogs all have the “aww” factor because the dogs look cute. Nature – I think that these pictures would appeal to nature lovers that like to look at the different aspects of nature. Again, I don’t think that these pictures appeal to a certain age group or gender, as they are just different types of flowers and moss. Historical and cultural context Fashion – Before I took these pictures, I decided to some research in to other fashion photography but my favourite photographer would have to be Norbert Schoerner because his photos were very extravagant and the backgrounds are always quite busy. I tried to take some of these influences to put on to my photography as my background was always busy and had different kind of things to fill it up instead of a plain background. I also quite like that he takes his photos on different angles but for me I took my pictures straight on because I like to get the full body in so you can get all the detail of the model you are taking a picture of. Dog – Again before I did the pictures I did some research in to dog photography but none of the photographers I researched really influenced me so, with some idea of what I wanted to do and went and took the pictures. From that I went and took the pictures ad tried to get the best ones I could. The way I have took my picture have flowed through from getting the faces of the dogs from a straight on angle so that the audience can see all the detail of the dogs faces and the different colours that are shown on the pictures. Nature – With this one I did the same with researching different photographers but none of them really influenced me although I did get some idea off some different photographers, but mainly went on my own ideas of what I wanted to do. When I first took my pictures and looked back through them I didn't really like the pictures I had took but then once I put them on to photoshop and started doing different edits on them and then I finally found what I wanted and followed the theme through. Finished Products Fashion - The intentions for this subject of photography was to be seen in a high street catalogue or high street fashion shops. I think that the pictures are fit for purpose because the model is wearing high street clothes around autumn time fitting in to other pictures I have seen of them before. My feedback to this subject shown me that the audience did like all the of the pictures and there would be just a few changes they would make such as the location so they're not all took in the same place and that photograph number two should of been a bit lighter in some places. They also show me that my work does fit it's purpose as the audience said they look like high street fashion photography. The technical qualities of these pictures show that in photograph number one I have used the lighting from outside to make the model look bright so you can see all the detail of her face and the lightness of the background, I added a vignette to this image to make the model look more central and to show that she is the main focus of the picture. The second photo I did, I colour popped the jumper of the model so then it made the jumper really stand out of of the picture. Although the main focus of the picture is the jumper, you can still see a lot of detailing from the background which makes the picture have an extra bit something as it's not just focusing on the jumper but sightly focusing on the background and other parts of the model. The final picture from this subject is the model stood in front of leafy back ground which makes lots of autumnal colours pop out from the back of her, I did this by changing the brightness of the picture and making it a bit lighter so the colours would really stand out. The aesthetic qualities of the pictures are similar to the technical qualities as I have used all of the technical qualities to make the pictures look to a professional standard. Dog - The intentions fro this type of photography was to get different types of dogs and get pictures of them that give the "aww" factor. I believe I have done this with these pictures and used Photoshop well in making these pictures. The purpose of taking these pictures was to appeal to dog lovers or people who would want to take their dogs to get pictures done and wanted to see what it would be like first. I feel like I have made these pictures fit to purpose as they have appealed to dog lovers. The feedback I received off of these pictures shows that the photograph one and two were the strongest out of the three because number one is said to give the "aww" factor and on the second photograph they liked how the picture was centered and gave a lot of detail of the dog and makes the dog look cute. The ways they would change the photographs would be to make the first photograph more centered and follow the rule of thirds and with the third photograph would be to take out the background so the it is more focused on the dog. the technical qualities with these pictures show that in the first picture, I made the whole picture black and white but then blurred it all to then erase the face of the dog so that would be the main focus of the picture. This helps so the face of the dog really stands out in the picture and shows a lot of detail. The second photograph shows a close up of the dogs face with the background slightly blurred and the nose of the dog being the main focus point of the dog. The colours in this pictures make the picture stand out from the other two pictures. For the final picture I have made the background black and white and then made the dog coloured. Because the original picture was so dark I had to lighten up the whole picture a lot. This picture is very centered and the main focal point of the picture and shows the facial expression of the dog well. Again with these pictures I have done the technical qualities to make the pictures look aesthetically pleasing the people who may want to see them. Nature - My intentions for these pictures were to appeal to nature lovers. I feel like y pictures are fit for purpose as I have different aspects of nature that would appeal to people who like different parts of nature. The feedback I got back shows that the audiences favourite picture was the photo with the ink flowers in it because it has a lot of detail and how the colours pop off the black background. The picture they would change is the first photo which is of the sunflower. They have said to make the picture more centered as some of the petals are cut off and it would be nice to see all of the flower. If I were to do this again I would take this into consideration. I have done the same technical qualities on all three of these pictures and it shows a theme across my work by lighting up the foreground images or the main subject of the picture and then making the background black. I have done this so it will make the colours pop and be nice for the audience to look at when the pictures go on exhibition. Throughout this task I have learnt how to edit pictures in different types of styles to fit for its purpose in the subject of photography it is for. I have gained many skills from this task such as doing a colour pop (making everything black and white and then making a part of the image in colour) or changing the contrast of the image to make it look more suited to my intentions. Production processes In this task I have learnt that I have gained a good creative ability whilst doing this project because I have learnt how to do lots of different types of editing such as how to use a vignette, how to change the contrast and lighting on pictures and finally how to colour pop different photos. This has helped me gain skills for future projects and for future careers. I have kept good time management in this project because I planned when I would do these pictures from doing production paperwork. this has helped me organise the whole of the project. Overall, I'm happy with the pictures I produced in this project and I am also happy with the feedback and it's criticisms and will take it to account next time I do a project like this. I have also gained a lot of skills to follow me through other projects and with future careers. Unit 57 Photography and Photographic Practice Nature photography

Ansel AdamsAnsel Adams was an American photographer who made all of his pictures black and white as he thought that colour was too distracting and that the audience wouldn't actually see the image but just the colours that were used in it. I understand why he has done this and I think this an effective way because it makes the photos stand out and more and it makes them look more dramatic. John Blakemore John Blakemore was an English photographer who wanted to capture a sense of the forces that shape the landscape at large. The results are photographs that have a raw power. I think that Blakemore was an excellent photographer as he got more than just the place of where the photos were taken. Wynn Bullock Wynn Bullock was an American landscape photographer who works overnight in museums. Bullock did both black and white and colourful photo's but I decided to display the black and white photos as I think they are more powerful and stand out more. My favourite photograph is the first one as I like how the mist is just below the points of the rocks and I think this makes a powerful image.
